STEAMverse Day 7 - Frame

Welcome to the ARVRinEDU Advent Calendar 2022! Our special focus this year is on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). These mini blogs will spotlight an immersive resource that can be easily implemented into the curriculum.

Frame (TECHNOLOGY, VR)

Build your virtual learning space in Frame. The Frame platform has evolved in time to be a robust environment for students to connect, collaborate, build, and learn. While many virtual reality spaces require a high-end VR headset, Frame is accessible on multiple devices such as phones, tablets, Chromebooks, computers, and VR headsets.

Speaking of accessibility, a new feature that allows Frame to stand out from the rest is closed captions. I had a chance to test out this feature for the first time with Dr. Marialice Curran, and we were squealing with joy when we saw the words appear in real-time. As if this feature didn’t already deliver an excellent classroom resource, they added the option to change your translations into multiple languages. Imagine speaking with classrooms worldwide in a virtual reality space that provides the text with speech AND the translation to any preferred language in real-time. WOW!

Closed captions are available for those that are close in proximity (voice zone) to avoid interrupting other conversations that are taking place outside of your group. Closed captions are also available in the text chat, making it possible to download a transcript of the closed captions.

Steps to get started

  1. Create an account in Frame.

  2. Make a new Frame and select your preferred environment.

  3. Share the Frame link to invite students into the space-enjoy!
