Curiscope - Day 10 #31DaysofARVRinEDU

I’m thrilled to provide the #31DaysofARVRinEDU event! Each day in March will include an augmented (AR) or virtual reality (VR) resource to bring into the classroom.

The Curiscope team has created a way to explore human anatomy in a realistic, amazing experience. With the use of a mobile device and the virtuali-tee shirt, students can see the circulatory, respiratory, skeletal, renal and digestive system in the human body. As you can see below, the app opens the camera to make the shirt come to life.

While it may be awkward to scan another person wearing the shirt, my husband found a way to make it work in his classroom. He is a middle school science teacher, and he decided to avoid the obstacle of hygiene with multiple students wearing the same shirt, he would put the shirt in an open area that was appropriate for the students to scan. He decided the best place to put the virtuali-tee shirt was on his classroom skeleton.

The app also provides virtual reality experiences by bringing students into 360 videos to explore inside of the organs. While it’s not required to view each of these activities in a VR viewer, it does make a more immersive experience for the students. Many times, our classroom has a tablet size device making it impossible to view in VR mode.

A new feature released in the summer of 2018 was the heart rate scanner. Other apps have used the light and camera on your device to detect your heart rate, but they don’t display that information in such a unique, realistic way. After the student holds their finger on the camera and the app detects the heart rate, the 3D visualization of the beating heart on the app, suddenly appears inside of the virtuali-tee shirt!

If you’re interested in testing out part of this experience, download the iOS or Android app on your mobile device and scan the image below. A download of this image is available by Curiscope here, and a list of lesson plans and resources are also available here.

If you are interested in purchasing the virtuali-tee shirt by Curiscope, you can buy it now for $29.95. As a thank you for being part of the ARVRinEDU community, you have access to a discount using the code ARVRinEDU!
